CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the Institution is divided into a number of classes, depending on education, training, experience and level of responsibility achieved. The classes of membership are as follows: -

FELLOWS [FIEE]

Members of the profession who have met the requirements of Member and have held a position of superior responsibility for over five years in addition to be engaged in or associated with engineering.

MEMBERS [MIEE]

Those who have met the Institution’s education and training requirements and have had at least two years of responsible experience.

COMPANIONS [COMPANION IEE]

Those who have rendered important services to electrical / manufacturing engineering e.g. in commerce, law etc., and who are not eligible for election as Fellows.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS [AMIEE]

Those who have met the educational requirements for membership usually a minimum of an appropriate degree at second class honours standards.

ASSOCIATE:

Those who have a good education and wish to take part in IEE activities but are not qualified for other classes of membership and are aged 21 or over.

SENIOR ASSOCIATE:

Those who have a relevant first degree from outside the UK and be interested in the advancement of electrical, electronic, software or manufacturing engineering and their applications and are aged at least 21 years.

STUDENTS:

Those studying for the profession and aged between 17 and 28.

Successful applicants for corporate membership will be asked if they wish to be registered on the Engineering Council’s Register of Chartered Engineers, and if they do, to remit the appropriate subscription and enrolment fees to the IEE
